Come and Meet Santa Specials December 2021
4th Dec 2021
Come and join us for some festive cheer in December - tickets now available to book online.
Our Santa service will feature a round trip on our railway hauled by one of our hard-working steam locomotives "Joyce" or "Austin 1" assisted by a diesel locomotive due to the very steep climb away from the station. All services will be in heated carriages.
Santa will still be operating a little differently due to the need to ensure Covid -19 safety - even Santa has to make sure he observes all the requirements of "safe distancing". The good news is he will be joining us on the train ride and on your return to the station he will be pleased to have his photo taken with you and your family group on the platform if you wish.
After the train ride Santa's helpers will make sure all the children receive a wrapped gift and agoody bag containing festive treats and a drimk. For the Grown Ups refreshments will be served, including mulled wine or fresh orange juice and mince pies - and not just any old mince pies - these are made for us by Maggie's Country Kitchens of Chilcompton using their own mincemeat made with brandy and cider. The recipe was formulated by Maggie's over 30 years ago.
The Santa Special trains will be sanitised by Santa's Elves between journeys and we will be ensuring that safe distancing is maintained in accordance with prevailing guidelines.
This year you can book either a compartment in one of our Compartment Carriages, or a bay in our Open Carriages - each bay consists of four grouped seats. If you book a Compartment the price you pay covers up to four people (including adults and children aged 4 and above) with the option to add a further four tickets up to a maximum of eight people per compartment. If you book an Open Carriage Bay this is a two-person ticket with the option to add a further two tickets up to a maximum of four. The ticketing system will take you through the steps including a prompt to purchase optional extra seats if you wish. As in previous years children aged 3 and under travel free and do not count towards the limit on numbers - they will also receive a gift from Santa and a goody bag.
Price includes train ride, wrapped gift and goody bag containing festive treats and a drink for children plus a soft drink or mulled wine and locally produced mince pie for adults.
Face coverings must be worn on the train as per government instructions for public transport. The exception to this requirement is if you have booked a compartment. Whilst in your compartment your face covering can be removed.
There is limited space in our 1950s style carriages so we ask that, where possible, pushchairs are not carried onto the train but left under the platform shelter where they will be safe.
With the exception of Assistance Dogs, no dogs allowed for this event due to the presence of many children.
