9th August, 2021
We are very pleased to report that our latest volunteers' weekend was a great success with 20 people attending over the two days. Several people signed up during the event with others sending in their forms over the coming days. We have since received emails from several people telling us they were unable to attend at the weekend, but have since joined online and will be attending this coming Sunday to find out more about being a working volunteer.
It was especially pleasing to hear and learn about the diverse backgrounds and range of skills that our enthusiastic new volunteers, both men and women will bring to the railway.
There are those keen to be trained in signalling or joining footplate crew whilst others have offered to help in many of the other areas that are essential to the running of a Heritage Railway, such as organising family events, liaising with local schools and playgroups, running the shop and the buffet coach, or joining the gardening team.
There are even jobs which can be done perfectly well from home so if you live some distance away but would like to help, do get in touch.
For those people who were unable to attend over the weekend and are interested in joining as a volunteer, then please do make contact with the railway or come along one weekend and speak to some of our current volunteers and learn how you can get involved.
We welcome people of all ages, genders and backgrounds. Maybe you would like to join us but know very little about railways. Don't let that put you off. We have many volunteers who just enjoy being part of what is essentially a friendly and enthusiastic community project and it’s a great way to learn new skills and meet new friends.
Hopefully, we will see you soon.
