Autumn Gala Sunday 27th September

This Sunday 27th September is the Autumn Gala.  

A busy day is planned starting at 10.00am and continuing through to the last train at 3.30pm.  Trains will depart every 30 minutes from the Down Platform and return to the Up Platform.  To add interest once a train has departed, the train on the Up Platform will then move across to the Down Platfom, ready for the next departure.

The trains scheduled to run are:

Class 107 DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit)

08 shunter D08769 hauling the Queen Mary Brake Van 

Wickham Tolley during the lunch break (12.30-13.45)

There will also be a miniature railway running by the museum - rides included in the All Day Ticket

The Signal Box will be open to visitors - you will be able to see the signaller in action on one of our busy days.

The museum is located in the old stables, and tells the story of the Somerset & Dorset Railway, not just in MIdsomer Norton, but also along the line.  You can get hands on - Why not try your hand at brass rubbing? - paper and crayons provided.  

Don't forget our WW2 history - we have a re-created Andeson Shelter which you will pass on your way to the WW2 pillbox at the top of the site.  This has it's own small museum.

For those railway modellers and railway history fans, don't miss the Emporium situated on the patio.  With a wide range of model railways and railway books it really is worth a look.  The Emporium recently reloacted to a larger coach - the BG (Braked Gangway) - and at 12.00 we will have the Official Opening of the new premises.

If you want to find out more about the railway and our ambitious plans, then join one of our tours led by Trust Chaiman Roger Burfitt.  These will start from the Bar Car located on the Down Platform at 11.00 and 14.00.

Refreshments will be availble throughout the day in the RMB Buffet also located on the patio.  If the weather is good, the picnic tables make a great place to take a rest between the attractions.

Tickets are All Day Rovers allowing tavel on as many trains as you like subject to space (including the miniature railway). Advanced Tickets are just £12 adults, £6 children, or £14 & £7 respectively on the day.
