Lewis gains his certificate of competence

On Sunday 14th August, Geoff Akers  Midsomer Norton South Station Master presented one of our young volunteers Lewis Haddrell, aged 16 with a certificate of competence in demonstrating basic theory and practical knowledge of heritage railway procedures. Geoff also presented Lewis with his porters waistcoat.

Lewis is a trainee member of the platform staff and attends the railway most Sundays and is now considering his future options within the various railway departments, and will be spending time with the signalling department next.

All work at Midsomer Norton is on a voluntary basis and we are always on the lookout for new volunteers. There are a wide variety of jobs to be done in all of the departments on the railway, helping with practical work or behind the scenes roles. Relevant skills are useful but not essential and we do offer training for any work that requires it. We welcome volunteers from aged 16 plus.

Visit the volunteer section of our website for more information on current vacancies and details of how to apply http://www.sdjr.co.uk/volunteering
