Events Team News
After a strong and encouraging start to the year, the Events Team is now fully immersed in planning and delivering the programme for the busy months ahead. Our early‑season events - Easter, the 1940s Weekend, and Dinosaur Day - were all very well received by visitors. Thanks to the hard work of everyone involved, each event ran smoothly and showcased the best of what our railway can offer.
We now turn our attention to the summer period, traditionally one of the most active and rewarding times of the year. A full calendar of events and running days is taking shape, offering something for families, enthusiasts, and casual visitors alike.
Wickham Season
July places the spotlight firmly on the Wickham Trolley, always a popular attraction.
Wickham Weekender takes place on 4th & 5th July, promising two lively days of rides and activity.
This is followed by the return of Wickham Wednesdays, beginning 22nd July and continuing through into September.
Summer Train Services
Our passenger trains will be running on Sundays from 26th July, and then every Sunday throughout August. Within these dates we have two special family‑focused events:
Midsomer Summer – Family Fun Day on 16th August
Teddy Bears’ Picnic on Bank Holiday Sunday & Monday
With the school holidays in full swing, these events are designed to offer light‑hearted, family‑friendly entertainment and to encourage new visitors to discover the railway.
Looking Ahead to September
September brings two key heritage events:
Heritage Day on 13th September, featuring brake van rides.
Autumn Gala on 27th September, with more details to follow in next month’s update
Major Events on the Horizon
Planning is already underway for our two largest events of the year:
Halloween, which this year expands to a two‑day experience
Christmas, always a highlight of the railway calendar
These require significant preparation, and early involvement from volunteers makes a huge difference.
