Day Excursion to Bournemouth West
Sunday 17th August dawned bright and sunny - an ideal day for family fun at the Midsomer Summer event at the station.
Themed around the idea of Day Excusions to the seaside back in the heyday of the railways, the event provided a mix of train rides and a vaiety of entertainment.
Trains departed from the Down Platform at Midsomer Norton South, returning to "Bournemouth West". The trains were busy, and on arival at "Bournemouth" people were able to head to the "beach" - a sandpit and paddling pool that proved very popular throughout the day. Some children really didn't want to leave.
Alongside the beach was a funfair area, with games to test your skills. Traditional games such as hook-a-duck, and tin can alley proved popular. There was even a Thomas the Tank Engine game to keep the railway theme going.
Elsewhere, the children were kept busy with magic shows with Dave Hickory, who proved really popular. When he wasn't performing magic, Dave was making some amazing balloon models for the children.
Later, we were joined by the Mendip Brass Band playing on the patio, and with the catering team serving cream teas, it was a perfect Sunday afternoon.
All too soon it was time to catch the train home. Thanks to everyone who supported the event, and to all the volunteers who worked hard to make it happen. Judging by the smiling faces, everyone had a good day, and we look forward to next year.
