New Year Permanent Way Work - Volunteering Opportunities
Working weekends:- 8th/9th, 15th/16th and 22nd/23rd January. Start time 08:30 hours
Our permanent way team has planned a busy start to the new year, with several complete track panels in the station areas being replaced with new rail and sleepers. The old rail and sleepers will be made up into 30 ft panels and is being sold.
Other work involves ballasting, and everyone's favourite - jacking and packing - of the Up line in the area parallel to the engineers siding.
If you are physically fit, have safety boots and working clothes and enjoy fresh air and some physical work then why not come along and get involved. Hi-Viz clothing is also required, however we do have a limited number of hi-viz bibs available for those who do not have their own HiViz.
Brand new volunteers will need to join as members and will be given a short induction, together with a Health and Safety briefing prior to being permitted into the work area(s).
If you are interested please contact either Steve Thornton or Mike Abbott. New volunteers, please email [email protected] for further information or just come along on one of the days.
This is a great opportunity to get involved with the railway, get fit, meet new friends and learn new skills.
